What is a Phlebotomist?

A Phlebotomy Technician is trained to collect and draw blood specimens and other specimens from patients for laboratory analysis.

Course Schedule: 

  •  Clock hours: 42.00

  • 7 weeks course/2 days a week

Entrance Requirements:

  • 18 years old or older

  • High school/college diploma or G.E.D

  • Driver license/ State ID 

  • 30 days proof of income when requesting an in-house payment plan for tuition.​​

Course Description

Our phlebotomy training classes are comprehensive and emphasize a “hands-on” method. Each student will draw blood at least once in every class. These draws will be supervised by the instructor and performed on other class members. Our instructors will guide you as you learn a variety of phlebotomy techniques. The course includes 7-weeks of lecture, discussion, and practical instruction in the lab. Each student must pass the final written and skill exams of the class with a final grade of “B” (80%) or better and satisfy all financial obligations to OPTC before graduating from our program. Once completed, students can work as an entry-level Phlebotomy Technician in a health care setting. Those who complete our program can then sit for the National Phlebotomy Technician Certification exam and become certified through the National Healthcareer Association. The exam fees is NOT included in the tuition cost.

Tuition & Fees: 

Phlebotomy program tuition cost is $1,211. A $100 registration fee is due at the time of enrollment. The registration fee is NOT deducted from the $1,211 tuition cost. The $100 registration fee is refundable up to 5 days after enrollment or the first day of class (whichever comes first). After the 5th day of enrollment, the fee is no longer refunded. The program tuition covers instructional tuition, laboratory fees, textbook rental fee and (1) exam fee. You do NOT need to pay for the entire class tuition upfront ONLY the $100 registration fee is due at the time of enrolling to secure your seat in the class. Certification and Accreditation:

Our program is state-approved by the OSBCCS (Reg. No#2154). Upon graduation, students can sit for the national exam and become certified through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
